BIOGRAPHY

Steph Stewardson combines her lifelong love of painting with her two greatest passions in life – music and travel. The result is an exciting journey which transports the viewer to concert halls and cities across the world, taking them into the audience at that concert and enjoying the music, or feeling the city streets beneath their feet and absorbing the atmosphere of that moment, of that place.

Born in 1970, and raised in Scotland, Steph became aware of her love for art at an early age. Her creative nature took her into a career as a graphic designer, while painting remained a constant in her life.

Growing up in Scotland, blue skies and sunshine were not an everyday occurrence. It was against this muted backdrop that Steph discovered her biggest inspiration – colour. Winters were long and days often dark by 3pm, so any form of colour always appeared more vibrant, whether it was a bright red bus against a grey sky, neon lights reflected in a wet pavement, or vivid stage lights in the darkness of a concert hall, she was captivated.

Working on canvas Steph enjoys the immediacy of acrylic paint and the vibrancy and drama which can be achieved with the colours, bringing to life the mood and the excitement of the moment.

In 2008 a move to Australia allowed Steph to dedicate more time to painting. Her passion for travel and live music, have resulted in hundreds of photos taken at concerts and cities around the world, which she uses as inspiration for her work. Her desire is to capture the viewer’s imagination, taking them to that place, drawing them in with bold colour and vibrancy, so they too can experience the mood and energy of the moment.

Steph lives and works in Brisbane, Australia.
